Chembe District attained its district status in the year 2012 out of Mansa district in Luapula Province of Zambia after a presidential pronouncement by his Excellent the late president Michael Chilufya Sata. It is on the plateau stretching along Luapula River on the Southern and North-West towards boundary with Mansa District around Lukangaba Chiefdom. The District shares boundaries with Mansa, Milenge and has an international boundary with the Democrat Republic of Congo.
Chembe District is located at 110 56” south latitude and 280 44” East Longitude. It is approximately 90 Kilometers from Mansa the Provincial Administration of Luapula Province. The Township is situated at the boarder along Chembe- Mansa road about 5 kilometers from Chembe Mwanawasa Bridge bordering with Democratic Republic of Congo.
The land is high flat except for land along Luapula River which is quite low and is prone to water logging in rainy season making it conducive for rice and banana growing. The Staple foods like Cassava and maize are long maturing crops. The harvest is annually meager and cannot take the family into the next harvest.
The terrain is characterized by wetlands and numerous streams flowing into Luapula River, the district also has the Shamendi Forest reserve which is an important water catchment area.
Most of the land is loam with potential for farming activities. The rainfall pattern is favorable with an average of rainfall of about 900mm annually. The average temperatures are about 280 C.
Vegetation type in Chembe district can be described as open Miombo woodland and the dominant tree species are the Brachystegia and Julbernadia Spp.
To become the leading Commercial District in the Province by 2030.
To facilitate the transition process of Chembe into an economic hub through viable and sustainable provision of quality socio-economic services.
